Among the 100 Most-Cited of All Time

29.04.2025

We are proud to share that Georg Kresse, spokesperson of our group, has co-authored one of the 100 most-cited scientific papers of all time, according to a 2025 analysis by Nature.

The 1996 paper, "Efficient iterative schemes for ab initio total-energy calculations using a plane-wave basis set", co-written with Jürgen Furthmüller, ranks 8th in the Web of Science Core Collection. This landmark work has become a foundational reference in density functional theory (DFT) and continues to shape research in materials science and condensed matter physics worldwide.

We congratulate Prof. Kresse on this exceptional recognition and are proud to see his work from the Computational Materials Physics group honored among the most influential in scientific history.
