Lukas Hörmann -New Postdoc

30.09.2025

We are pleased to welcome Lukas Hörmann as a new postdoctoral researcher at the CMP group. Lukas brings extensive expertise in atomic-scale surface dynamics, with a research focus on energy dissipation and friction at the nanoscale.

His work combines density functional theory, machine learning, and molecular dynamics to understand and control ultrafast processes at surfaces. In particular, he investigates how phononic, electronic, and interfacial interactions govern energy dissipation, aiming to develop design principles for superlubricating interfaces and functional surface materials.

Lukas previously held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Warwick, UK, and collaborates closely with international partners across Europe. He is also an active contributor to open-source software, including the SAMPLE structure search code, and has published widely in leading journals.

We look forward to Lukas’s contributions and are excited to have him on board!
