New PhD Student

18.01.2024

We are pleased to welcome Tobias Hilpert as Georg Kresse's new PhD student in our group.

Tobias was born in Germany and did his Bachelor and Master in the Netherlands at the Eindhoven University of Technology with Ivo Filot. The topic of his master thesis was "Scaling models of metal nanoparticles to experimentally relevant sizes using neural network potentials and machine-learned force fields for the design of more efficient catalysts".

His research interests concern how to leverage machine learning techniques to scale up atomistic materials modelling, particularly focusing on the use and development of active learning approaches like kernel based machine learned force fields to create unbiased data sets.

In our research group, he will work in the Cluster of Excellence "Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage". The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) provides this research funding, which is by far the most highly endowed in Austria, for major scientific projects at the highest international level in particularly promising areas.
